Seamus Fogarty

Seamus Fogarty is an Irish singer-songwriter from Mayo. He makes nice layered tunes that combine elements of folk music with gentle electronics.

He played the Botanique’s lovely arched cellar (the Witloof Bar) on Valentine’s day 2019. So I grabbed my one true love (and its finest lenses) and took a train to Brussels.

José González

José González is a Swedish-Argentinian singer-songwriter and guitarist from Gothenburg.

He played two of my favourite venues in Antwerp.

In 2015 he visited De Roma (photos here) and in the summer of 2017 he played a lovely solo gig in the park at OLT Rivierenhof. (photos here)

Ibeyi

Ibeyi is a musical duo consisting of Lisa-Kaindé Diaz and Naomi Diaz, twin sisters from France (with Cuban, Venezuelan and Tunesian roots).
They make upbeat, empowering and soulful music and are a joy to photograph.

I caught them on camera when they visited Het Depot in Leuven (December 2017). (photos here)

Charlie Cunningham

Charlie Cunningham is a fine singer-songwriter and a brilliant guitarist from England.
We crossed paths twice.

The first time he played the Botanique’s beautiful museum during Les Nuits 2016, so I could walk around and shoot him from all angles. (photos here)

The second time (December 2017) he played the inimate but dark Handelsbeurs in Ghent. (photos here)

One of my pictures of the first gig ended up in the Stewkley Grapevine, the town magazine from the village where Charlie grew up, next to an article written by his mum. How sweet is that?

Kevin Morby

Kevin Morby is an American singer-songwriter and musician from Texas.
I photographed him and his wonderful band (including the brilliant Meg Duffy) on multiple occasions.

The first time in 2014, at the Big Next Festival at DOK in Ghent. (This was the very first festival I photographed for indiestyle.be.) (photos here)

In 2016 they returned to DOK and played the beautiful outside arena (my favourite spot at DOK). I remember I had an early morning flight to Dublin to catch the very next day, so I might have left after a couple of songs. (I didn’t really want to, but Dublin was just a tad more important.) (photos here)

I caught them again at Cactus festival 2017 (Bruges) in broad daylight (photos here), and a year later at Boomtown, Ghent (photos here).

Angel Olsen

Angel Olsen is an American singer-songwriter from Missouri.
I photographed her multiple times. (and there’s a reason for that)

The first time I caught her on camera (in 2014) she played the AB Club in Brussels. (This was one of the very first concerts I shot and that’s noticeable in the photos. Still, it might be good to see I evolved since then. 🙂 ) (photos here)

I saw her a second time in 2016 at the Botanique. (I remember having a terrible migraine and still going to the gig — that’s dedication for you) (photos here)

Luckily she returned to the Botanique soon after that one for Les Nuits 2017 and I was there again, of course. (photos here)

The last time, in April 2018, she played in a beautiful church in the middle of nowhere AKA St. Denijs, West Flanders of a special event called ‘Angel in Heaven’ (how appropriate). (photos here)

James Vincent McMorrow

James Vincent McMorrow is an Irish singer-songwriter. I loved his debut album Early in the Morning (released in 2010). His musical style has changed a lot since then.

In 2018 I travelled to Düsseldorf (Germany) to see James play a rare solo gig. I loved this one so much more than the full band gig I saw a few years earlier in the Cirque Royal in Brussel.

(Pictures of the solo gig here)

a nice video to watch

Sharon Van Etten

Sharon Van Etten is an American singer-songwriter from New Jersey.
I had to wait a long time for an opportunity to photograph her, but it was worth the wait.

I took some pictures when she played the Botanique (Brussels) during the Remind Me Tomorrow tour. (photos)

I hope I get another opportunity soon.
