Iron & Wine

Iron & Wine is Sam Beam, an American singer-songwriter from South Carolina.

I photographed him on two occasions.

First with the wonderful Jesca Hoop in the Botanique (photos) and a second time as Iron & Wine at the AB (photos) (both in Brussels and both times for indiestyle.be)

I’m looking forward to seeing him play with Calexico this summer.

Mick Flannery

Mick Flannery isn’t just an Irish singer-songwriter, he’s one of the very best.
I assume he doesn’t particularly enjoy being photographed, nevertheless I did just that on a couple occasions. #sorrynotsorry

I photographed him at the Little Waves festival at C-mine, Genk (Belgium) in 2018. (photos here)

And at De Roma in Antwerp (2017), where he opened for 10CC (I left before 10CC started) (photos here)

And once at Rotown in Rotterdam too. (with band) (photos here)

And again at Paradiso Noord in Amsterdam. (photos here)

You’d think I had enough by now, but next month I’ll be Cork and guess who’s playing st. Luke’s that day? 🙂

Spotify told me I played this song an awful lot last year.
But this one makes me chuckle every time.

Haley Heynderickx

Haley Heynderickx is a singer-songwriter from Portland, Oregon.
Her debut album I Need to Start a Garden (another great one from Mama Bird Recording Co.) is one of my favourite releases from 2018.
Haley’s songs are fragile and powerful at the same time, full of doubt and still somehow positive.

I saw her on 2 occasions.

The first time she played the Ancienne Belgique’s Salon & I took some nice monochrome pictures. (photos here)

The second time was a secret gig, organised by indies keeping secrets in a school gym. I tried to take some pics, but with no lights… well, you can see for yourself.  (photos here)

Devendra Banhart

Devendra Banhart

Devendra Banhart is an American / Venezuelan singer-songwriter and artist.
He’s one of those people I find fascinating because he has so many different sides to him and I can’t instantaneously grasp what he’s all about.
Some of his songs are quite nice too.

I photographed him on two occasions.

The first time was at the Botanique in Brussels (for indiestyle.be). He appeared to be a bit drunk but that didn’t spoil the fun. Also, he scored supplementary points by complimenting me on my nice lenses. (photos here)

The second time was during Le Guess Who? 2018 in beautiful Utrecht. Really nice show but no praise for my lenses this time 🙂 (photos here)

Here’s a link to one of my favourite tunes of his and one to his website.

The National

The National is an American indie rock band from Cincinnati, Ohio. But I’m pretty sure you know them.

They played at Down The Rabbit Hole 2016.
I was very lucky and had access to the front stage to make some photos for the online magazine daMusic.
You can find the full set of photos here.
(I’m pretty darn proud of how these turned out 🙂 )

I caught them again in November 2017 at Forest National in Brussels.
This time taking photos for indiestyle. Look at the full photo set here

Wilco

Wilco is an American band from Chicago, Illinois.
They played a brilliant set at Cactus Festival 2016 in Bruges (Belgium).

I made some photos for the online magazine Indiestyle. You can find the full set of photos here.
